WORK EXPERIENCE
At K9DC, we believe the future of dog care and training begins with creating meaningful opportunities for those who are passionate about animals.
We are committed to supporting young people and individuals with learning difficulties by providing hands-on, accessible work experience within a safe, encouraging, and educational environment.
Our aim is to inspire confidence, build skills, and open the door to a rewarding career in the canine industry—while fostering a community where everyone is valued, included, and empowered to succeed.
Our Programme
Our work experience programme is designed to give participants a genuine insight into the world of professional dog care and training. Throughout their time with us, individuals will support the team with a range of basic daily tasks, gaining first-hand experience of how a high-quality dog care business operates.
From understanding routines and safety procedures to observing team communication and organisation, participants learn the essentials that keep K9DC running smoothly.
Alongside practical involvement we introduce key training techniques and foundations of dog behaviour.
Participants will learn how dogs communicate, how positive reinforcement works, and how to recognise and react to different behaviours in dogs. With guidance from our qualified trainers and behaviour specialists, they will have the opportunity to apply their new skills in a controlled, supportive environment, ensuring both confidence and safety as they learn.

Our aim is to create an educational, enjoyable and empowering experience that equips each individual with valuable knowledge, practical skills, and a deeper understanding of the dog care industry.
Local Schools & Colleges
We are proud to work closely with local schools and colleges to provide meaningful work experience as part of their students’ educational journey. This could be as part of standard curriculum or as part of a course requiring work alongside animals or dogs.
By partnering with these institutions, we offer young people the opportunity to step into a professional dog care environment, gain practical skills, and explore potential career pathways within the canine industry.
Our structured placements support curriculum goals while giving students a safe, engaging, and hands-on learning experience that enriches their confidence, understanding, and future prospects.
Specialist Schools
We are deeply committed to creating inclusive opportunities, and this extends to our partnerships with specialist schools for individuals with learning difficulties.
Through these collaborations, we provide students with a supportive, engaging, and accessible work experience that allows them to explore their interests within a real canine care environment.
Our team adapts tasks, guidance, and learning approaches to suit each individual’s needs, ensuring they feel confident, valued, and encouraged every step of the way.
By working closely with teachers and support staff, we help students build practical skills, develop independence, and discover the joy of working with animals—making their time at K9DC both meaningful and empowering.
Volunteers
Even when we don’t have vacancies available, we are always keen to support individuals who are eager to gain experience in the dog care and training industry.
We welcome volunteering requests from those who are passionate about canine welfare and looking to build their skills in a professional, supportive environment.
Volunteers have the opportunity to observe our team in action, assist with supervised tasks, and learn more about dog behaviour, training techniques, and the daily operations of a high-quality dog care centre. By opening our doors to volunteers, we aim to nurture future talent, offer valuable hands-on learning, and inspire confidence in those taking their first steps into this rewarding field.
